FIFA Women’s Champions Cup 2027™ pathway bracket

Cruzeiro EC is going all out

Cruzeiro EC won the CONMEBOL Women’s Libertadores for the first time in their history after beating SC Corinthians 5-4 on penalties (4-4) in an unforgettable final, after trailing 0-3 and tying the game in stoppage time.

They will therefore make their debut in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup™, where they will aim to improve on the performance of SC Corinthians themselves, who were runners-up in the competition’s inaugural edition.

Striker Byanca Brasil, who scored the goal that kick-started the comeback – bringing her tally to six in the tournament – spoke about what qualifying for the competition means for her team. “In this competition, we’re going to be representing all Brazilians. I think this is important to bring visibility [to the sport], especially because we’re close to hosting the FIFA Women’s World Cup in our country. So, we have to not only represent the Brazilian female players the best we can, but also to honour this shirt with a lot of pride.”

The challenge of facing FC Barcelona Femení on 27 January did not go unnoticed by goalkeeper Camila Rodrigues, who played a decisive role in the penalty shoot-out. However, she highlighted Cruzeiro EC’s strengths as they prepare to face the European champions in the semi-final. “I think first of all our unity, which is what we have shown today, and believing up to the last second. And lastly, we are Brazilians, we’re made of different stuff. So, we have to believe up to the last second, and go get them, that’s it.”

It is worth noting that, as winners of the CONMEBOL Women’s Libertadores 2026, Cruzeiro EC have also qualified for the first edition of the FIFA Women’s Club World Cup™, which will be held in the United States in 2028.
